Stingray (Sold)
Todd Couper (1974 – Maori)
The stingray is seen as a sacred creature by the Maori. They see the animal as the protector of the area where the shellfish live, one of the food sources of the Maori. They believed that if they followed the correct “tikanga” (practices), the stingray would ensure that there would be plenty of food. This beautiful work of art is carved from just one piece of wood and processed with great precision by Maori artist Todd Couper.
