Bear Drum

Doug David (1940-2016 First Nation)

Sacred drumming is one of the most ancient musical forms. Drums like these were used for traditional dances and ceremonies. The First Nations also used them to communicate with their ancestors and to establish a link with the earth and celestial worlds. This drum was created by the experienced and talented First Nation artist Doug David. He decorated the drum with a bear. In First Nation culture, the symbol of a bear represents protection, courage, physical strength and leadership.
